Reclining female nude 1

Description

A quick 15 minute charcoal nude study of Linzi reclining. Drawing Linzi proved more difficult than I was expecting, helped in part by problems with my hands and dexterity. Adding to this was the fact that I was drawing very quick 2 minute sketches (which I will add later)... so when Linzi lay down for 15 minutes it felt like an age. In all I'm pretty pleased with the results... especially the feet.

The butt and thighs are too muscular, and squared, the shoulders and head are great but the elbows and hands are too muscular too. The white wasn't soft enough for a female body, If your going for androgyny you have a good mix but if your looking for a female form, you need softer features. Your lightsources are mixed, the shadows suggest a direct center above harsh light source but the white suggests different. Overall I love the look and feel regardless because it's unusual and androgynous.

I know it's hard to get soft round edges with charcoal but if you use a natural charcoal from a bonfire or start a fire and make your own charcoal use oak, it's overall softer but has a strong jet black curve.  Your going to wanna pull charcoal from all over the fire where it burns hottest will be softest and darkest and where it doesn't burn as hot will be harder.

The shapes of the pieces are different to work with but the result is much less clean and softer looking so it would be great for female nudes. I use them for pretty much everything, I should upload my stuff.
